Frankenhooker is not the worst Frankenstein adaptation out there (hello, Jesse James Meets Frankenstein’s Daughter) but it ranks low. This 1990 black comedy comes from exploitation maestro, Frank Henenlotter, the director of Basket Case. Like Basket Case, Frankenhooker is sleazy, crass, and gory; but unlike its predecessor, Frankenhooker lacks inspiration. Two Lost Worlds (1951) Movie Review
Two Lost Worlds is a cult classic worth seeking out. How often do you find a combined pirate and dinosaur movie? Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) Movie Review
Godzilla vs. Kong is a mixed bag. On the positive side, the battles between the titular foes are impressive; the fight choreography is creative and leaves a lasting impression thanks to Wingard's directorial flair. Additionally, Kong as the emotional heart of the film works well; his Hollow Earth journey, along with his relationship with Jie … Continue reading Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) Movie Review

Basket Case is a complicated film. On the surface, it is a well-made schlocker sporting stylized violence and wickedly dark humor. Look a little deeper, however, and it is not a stretch to apply themes of the discrimination disabled people face in the world. This, in and of itself, mostly presents as a poignant meditation on … Continue reading Basket Case (1982) Movie Review

C.H.U.D. (1984) Movie Review
Come for the premise, stay for the early turns from noted actors John Heard, Daniel Stern, and even John Goodman. Unfortunately this doesn’t say much about the movie itself. C.H.U.D. is a New World Pictures production about a photographer, soup kitchen manager, and police captain who join forces to reveal a government coverup involving mutated humanoids dwelling … Continue reading C.H.U.D. Pacific Rim (2013) Movie Review
Guillermo del Toro lends his expertise of genre-filmmaking to the kaiju movie. No detail is left neglected in this story about a team of pilots overcoming the odds to defeat an invading army of evil giant monsters. Not only are the tropes and hallmarks of the Japanese kaiju film on display, but so are elements … Continue reading Pacific Rim (2013) Movie Review
